I came home today from an elderly woman chewing me out to a rearranged living room, a bald-headed husband, and a really jumpy cat. I guess Mr. was in the mood for a change, and change is certainly in the mood for me.
I think I like this change. The living room looks bigger and much more open. We are now facing the Cloudy Day accent wall, with "Redhead at Piano" and Flat Screen HDTV the focal points, viewable from all seating for once. The apartment is opened up. There is more room to hang pictures or decorations appropriately. I feel much less cluttered, and it feels like a home now.
Bald Husband is always fun. I keep telling him that someday when he loses all of his hair, he'll be missing his head of thick brown hair and wish he'd never shaved it. But, in these glorious twenties he does have that luxury of a fast-growing mop, and can alternate between bushy and baldy at a whim. I like to touch his pretty smooth head as much as I love to play with his thick head of hair. Plus, he thinks he looks bad-ass, which is pretty funny.
On the 14th we are having a yard sale. My parents, and my sister and her husband are joining forces to create one large cleansing yard sale in K-town. I am so looking forward to this. We are starting to purge everything we don't need, and hope to end up with very little left over. I mean, I want to get rid of as much as we can get away with. I want to take no hostages. There are many things reminiscent of university life, and although Mr. is still a student, we are setting up a home, not a dorm. The time for more-more-more is over. We can hardly breathe with all of our stuff up in here. We have very little space as it is, so being minimalists will suit our lifestyle.
Sometimes I wish it was legal to punch the elderly. Only sometimes.
The cat is much less jumpy now. I suppose she has already adjusted to the change, and now she just wants to cuddle.
Craigslist. It's like going to the best yard sale in the world, and you don't even have to leave your home unless you really want something. You can bargain and trade without feeling intimidated, and make out with a new television or a job trimming bushes for extra gas money. You never know what you're going to find on there, whether it is trash or opportunity. I, personally, like to browse the furniture for sale section (and punctuate that with a look through the 'musical instruments' and 'for free' sections, hoping for a decent piano one day.) My sofa set is from craigslist, and was barely used and still beautiful when we bought them at an amazing price (although, with the kitty and my fat butt, they have quickly become worn.) Just Monday, I became frustrated with the over-sized dining table and bulky chairs in our tiny apartment kitchen, so perused Craigslist until I found something more suitable- a rectangle table with benches that fit nicely underneath, easily fits against out wall and can be pulled out for more guests. It is really something; solid wood in perfect condition, just the thing we were hoping to find, and only $85 after bargaining. Now we have an abundance of room to spare, and our kitchen looks better. Mr. has posted and sold a number of items as well. In fact, anyone interested in a round oak dining table and some chairs?
I've looked at real estate. Mr. has advertised his design services with abundant success. My brother-in-law sold his restored Nova to a man in Georgia. And then there's the "Best of Craigslist," where you can find things such as a giant vagina couch, and "Confessions of a BART Fartist." All of this for the low price of time wasted in front of a computer and nothing more.
Craigslist rocks.
